“Do work that you’d sign your name to.” I was 14 years old, standing in Cape Cod with my grandfather and my dad, looking at the home they would be working on while I gathered materials. The wiring was exposed for us to see. My dad said to me, “That is the quality of work that you want to perform—something that you’d be proud to put your name on. Just do work that you’d sign your name to, and you won’t have to worry about anything.” I used that as a point of reference at the beginning of my career, and I still use it today.
Nelson Electric, Inc. was established in 1961 by my grandfather. My father and uncle worked there for quite some time before branching out into different aspects of the electrical industry. Though I wasn’t able to formally take over my grandfather’s business, his influence remains. “Since 1961” is more than just a part of our branding—it’s a tribute to the knowledge, skill, and values passed down through my family of electricians to me.
